Part of great skin is knowing how to take care of it, and when to seek medical attention.
Chesterfield Valley Dermatology would like to remind you that it is very important to do monthly self-exams and yearly skin examinations with a dermatologist. Skin cancer is on the rise and there is no reliable cure for melanoma. Here are a few tips to assist you with doing a self-skin exam. Just remember A, B, C, D, E: Asymmetry- imagine if you would fold your mole in half, it should be similar on both sides. Border- the outer border of your moles should be smooth. Irregular or poorly defined borders are concerning. Color-your mole should be similar in color throughout, moles very dark in color or that are two or more different colors could be concerning. Diameter- moles larger than the size of a pencil eraser may be concerning. Evolving- if you notice that a mole is growing or changing rapidly, you should have it evaluated by a dermatologist.
